Chloe Millard is a 17 year-old senior at The River Academy. She was born and raised in the Wenatchee Valley and has loved growing up in a community that values the arts. Chloe’s heart was drawn towards music when she was a little girl. Whether it was singing “My Favorite Things” to her church or humming lullabies to her stuffed animals, Chloe had a song on her lips from a very young age.
She followed in her older sister’s footsteps and began Keyboarding for Kids with Jill Larsen at age six. Two years later she began private piano lessons and is now entering her 11th year of instruction with Diane Stober. Chloe has won many awards as a pianist, including silver medals in 2015 and 2016 and a gold medal in 2017, at Musicfest Northwest competitions. She has performed in the Wenatchee Valley Music Teachers Association piano competitions, receiving
honorable mentions, and in 2017 won 2nd alternate. Chloe took first place in both piano and soprano categories in the WIAA/WMEA Solo and Ensemble Competition last year, allowing her the opportunity to represent Wenatchee at the state level. Chloe has been accepted into a myriad of piano camps across Washington State and has been chosen to perform in master classes. She has also accompanied the Eastmont High School jazz choir and served as a church musician.
Last year Chloe started voice lessons with Leslie McEwen. Since Leslie’s sudden passing, Chloe has continued her vocal instruction with Melissa Schiel and Ron Bermingham. She appreciates opera and the many periods and composers in music’s history. In her junior year, Chloe was accepted into the All Northwest Choir. As a passionate musician, she wrote her junior thesis on “The Importance of Music in Education.” Chloe is extremely honored and thankful for her opportunity to be awarded first place in the Symphony’s 2017 Young Musician’s Competition.
Chloe made her theatre debut at age nine, playing Brigitta in Leavenworth Summer Theatre’s The Sound of Music, and was welcomed back to play the same role the next summer. She has played lead roles in school plays and the part of Wednesday in the Eastmont High School production of The Addams Family Musical. Chloe loves musical theatre and desires to pursue vocal performance in a college or conservatory.
Chloe occupies her free time with her friends from school or her family members at home. Chloe would like to thank her parents, Gary and Ingrid Millard, for their loving and continual support of her musical endeavors. She also wants to thank her music teachers, Diane Stober, Tara Abbott, Leslie McEwen, Melissa Schiel, and Ron Bermingham, not only for their phenomenal musical influence, but also for their kind and helpful mentorship.
Whether she is playing piano, singing, or performing on stage, Chloe hopes to bring joy to people through the power of music.
