April 18-19, 2020 – Messiah
We complete the season with a performance of Handel’s Messiah in collaboration with the Columbia Chorale. Commonly performed during the Advent season, this oratorio was originally premiered shortly after Easter in 1742, in Dublin. We will perform Parts II and III, which depict, “The accomplishment of redemption by sacrifice of Christ, mankind’s rejection of God’s offer, and mankind’s utter defeat when trying to oppose the power of the Almighty,” and “A Hymn of Thanksgiving for the final overthrow of Death.” With Soloists Anastasia McRae (soprano), Melissa Schiel (alto), Christopher Pfund (tenor), Aaron Agulay (bass).
