Notes from Composer Gordon Schuster on Concerto for Clarinet, Op. 10

The Concerto for Clarinet was composed in 1997, the result of a commission by Caroline McKee, principal clarinetist of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. At the time, the symphony had recently performed a Piano Concerto I had composed while an undergraduate at Eastern Washington University.

The concert is entitled Clarinet Monsters:  Music of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Jeff Brooks.  The concert features music that ranges from classics to new compositions.  The orchestra will perform these works with Jeff Brooks’ Clarinet Monsters jazz combo:  Let’s Dance reprise; Sing, Sing, Sing; Begin the Beguine; Jazz Clarinet Concerto; Sweet Anticipation; Courante; On His 40th; and Spanicopida.  Radif will be performed as solo for clarinetist Brooks.

WENATCHEE VALLEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA THIRD CONCERT FEBRUARY 28

The orchestra will perform The Cowboys Overture, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Adventures on Earth from E.T., Star Wars Suite, and That's Entertainment.

The orchestra will also play three pieces from Schindler's List, as well as Tango from Scent of a Woman, all featuring violinist Tarn Travers.
